In this Zoom class, we’re diving deep into the heart of traditional Czech cuisine and exploring the rich, comforting flavors of Valašská Kyselica, a truly unique and flavorful soup. Originating from the beautiful mountainous region of Wallachia, this hearty soup is a celebration of sauerkraut, potatoes, and smoky kielbasa, all brought together in a creamy, tangy broth. We will learn the secrets to achieving that perfect balance of sour, savory, and smoky notes, and we will master the techniques to make this classic soup right in your own kitchen.

About the Series

Welcome to Classic & Modern Czech & Slovak Cuisine XVII, the newest edition in our popular series of live, online Zoom cooking classes! Get ready to embark on a delicious culinary journey from the comfort of your own kitchen. This exciting series features five unique classes, each designed to immerse you in the rich and diverse flavors of Czech and Slovak cooking.

 

Each class is taught live via Zoom, and about a week before each session, you can download a detailed preparation sheet, complete with a shopping list and recipes, from www.czechcookingschool.com. Don’t worry if you haven’t taken any of our previous classes – you can join any class in this series without having attended its predecessors.

 

This series offers a diverse range of culinary experiences, including: crafting a grand, heart-shaped Linzer Tart for Valentine’s Day along with Jednohubky (mini canapés); simmering a hearty Valašská Kyselica soup; mastering the iconic Kuře na Paprice (creamy paprika chicken with dumplings); transforming cauliflower into a crispy, golden delight paired with Tatarská omáčka and buttery potatoes; and finally, perfecting a juicy, pan-seared and oven-finished Pork Chop Steak served with creamy mashed potatoes.

About Chef Tom Slepicka

Slepicka graduated from culinary school in his hometown, Brno, located in the Czech Republic. While still in school, he established a successful full-service catering company which operated in the Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, and Austria. Slepicka moved to the U.S. with his wife in 2014. From 2015-16, he operated the Czech Deli at the NewBo City Market. The goal of his courses is to make tasty and high-quality meals accessible to everyone.

After Registration

You will receive a confirmation email containing information about how to access the class, recipe, tools needed, and any prep you might need to do ahead of time. Participants will need high-speed internet and a computer, tablet, or smartphone to access the course content. To interact with the chef during the class, you will also need a webcam and microphone.
