MEET THE ARTISTS:

Dorota Lungová

Moravian folk artist Dorota Lungová loves folklore and painting. She comes from the village of Ratíškovice and currently lives in in the village of Milotice, South Moravia. She likes traditions, singing and a glass of red wine. She has been painting ornaments for about seven years and her initial impulse was to make an original gift for her grandmother for Christmas. This is how Dorota created her first painted aprons. It was her grandmothers who were a great inspiration and resource for her in her newfound hobby. Since then, she has been painting folk ornaments (from south-Kyjov region) not only for her own joy, but also for the enjoyment of other fans of South Moravian traditions. From the original painting on textiles, she has gradually moved on to ceramics, glass, leather goods, Easter eggs, shoes and painting on the facades of wine cellars in particular. Painting ornaments is a beautiful, but time-consuming hobby for her, but as she says, she would not change. She has found herself in ornaments and painting and intends to continue.

Ludmila Vojtěšková

Now a Brno resident, she comes from the village of Zaječí in the Břeclav region, South Moravia. Ludmila Vojtěšková has been painting ornaments for more than twenty years, but she has been painting mostly Moravian Slovakia patterns and ornaments typical of her native region. She was introduced to painting by her aunt – Moravian folk painter, from whom her niece had her first bows painted when she started wearing a costume. Ludmila mainly paints bows for costumes (“kroj”). In addition, she transfers motifs and ornaments onto glasses and other glassware. Painting ornaments is her greatest hobby, relaxation and honor to be a bearer of this folk craft. Besides that, she likes to travel, go to the theatre, read a book or sitting down with a glass of wine with friends for a pub quiz.

Cost: $15. RSVP required.
