CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Members of the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library (NCSML) elected four people to three-year terms as new members of its Board of Trustees. The election took place March 5 at the NCSML’s annual meeting of the membership. The new board members are:
Ron Detweiler
Detweiler is a CPA with the Iowa-based firm Honkamp Krueger & Co. He has more than 37 years of experience in accounting, tax, business and advisory client services. In the late 1990s he helped the NCSML establish its first chart of accounts and continued to advise the bookkeeper until the flood in 2008.
Dr. Allison Stanger
Stanger is a political scientist and the Russell J. Leng ’60 Professor of International Politics and Economics at Middlebury College in Vermont. Stanger has been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations since 2004, and since October 2009 she has worked as a part-time consultant to the U.S. Secretary of State’s Policy Planning Staff. She speaks fluent Czech and is married to Michael Kraus, who emigrated from Czechoslovakia.
Dr. Kim Becicka
Becicka is vice president of continuing education and training services at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Becicka is an Academy Fellow of the Aspen Institute’s Sector Academy, and she serves on several boards in the Cedar Rapids area. Her research interests include workforce development, noncredit community college students, public/private partnerships, sector strategies and educational pathways for populations with barriers to education and training.
Stephen E. Zlatos
Zlatos is a patent attorney representing inventors in patent litigation in federal courts throughout the United States. In 2003, Zlatos was appointed Honorary Consul for the Slovak Republic, with a consulate area that includes the states of Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. He has traveled extensively throughout Central Europe, speaks Slovak, and is active in assisting Indiana companies in developing business ties there.
