Helene presents her program “Creating Beauty Through Nature” in person at the Hemphill Theater and online via Zoom at 2 p.m. CST to discuss how village people used things at hand to create beauty in their clothing, homes, and churches. She will share stunning pictures of “nature inspired” villagers who used beads and fish scales to decorate folk dress in Bohemia, peacock feathers and thistle fiber lace in Moravia, and sheepskin and feathers in Slovakia to name just a few. Treasured heirlooms include a variety of Love Tokens made by village swains for their beloveds. The presentation will be filled with incredible beauty and stories of how Czechs and Slovaks made and adorned themselves and their surroundings creating beauty that has lived long beyond them, treasures we marvel at today.
