Dr. Martin Korčok

Dr. Martin Korčok presents photographs and testimonies of 10 individuals that survived the Holocaust in Survivors’ Testimonies.

Dr. Martin Korčok was born in 1979 in Kosice, Slovakia. He studied at the Department of Ethnology and Non-European Studies of the Faculty of Arts of University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava. After graduation, he began working for the Slovak National Museum — Museum of Jewish Culture, where he was the deputy director. Currently he is the head of the Sered Holocaust Museum. While working for the museum, he absolved external studies at the Department of Ethnology and Museology of the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava, where he obtained his PhD.

Since 2005, he has been serving as a permanent expert of the Slovak Ministry of Culture for Holocaust memorial creation, and in the same year he became a member of the Slovak delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). Since 2022 he has represented the IHRA on the Committee of Experts on Roma and Travellers Issues ADI-ROM in the Council of Europe.

He produced 46 films with holocaust survivors, published supporting educational materials about Holocaust for schools, and organized training programs for teachers and students at home and abroad. His photography has been seen by visitors to exhibitions in Bratislava (SVK), Prague (CZE), Cracow (POL), Jerusalem (ISR), Ottawa (CAN) and Shanghai (CHN).

For his work in the area of protection of human rights, he has received multiple awards, for example from the Public Ombudsman for contributions in the area of protection of basic human rights and freedoms in 2021, and the Anton Srholec Freedom Award for outstanding contributions to the protection of human rights, strengthening democracy and the rule of law, and manifestations of exceptional civic courage in 2021.
