Fused Glass Class: Jewelry
Just in time for the holidays, create one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces for your friends and family, or for yourself!
In this hands-on class, you will learn the basics of making fused glass jewelry including glass compatibility, kiln preparation, fusing, slumping, and annealing. Sample many of the current fusing products available, including frits, stringers, confetti, and dichroic glasses. You’ll create a variety of hot glass art projects including fused glass pendants and earrings. You will learn how to create exciting, unique effects with simple layout methods, tools, and tricks of the trade.
Fusing is easy to do, even if you’ve never worked with glass before! No previous experience is required.
All glass materials and tools are included in the ticket price. Bails for pendants and earring bails with ear wires are also included in the price of the class. Jewelry will be fired and ready to pick up at the NCSML about 2 weeks after the class.
Tickets must be purchased by November 17.
Registration for this workshop has now closed.
About the instructor: Erin Fitzgerald is a native of Cedar Rapids and a 2006 graduate of Iowa State University. After receiving her BFA in Graphic Design, she continued on in a career of packaging design in Cedar Rapids until joining the University of Iowa as an Art Director in 2012.
Working in fused glass has become her passion and outlet for creative expression. In 2005, she started Chicken Scratch Studio and sells her handmade items at farmer’s markets, gift shops, and online. She teaches glass fusing classes in Iowa and Illinois. Erin’s design influences are pulled from making ordinary things extraordinary, and looking for beauty in the least likely of objects. Each glass piece is purposefully unique. Her students and colleagues are a constant source of inspiration.
