March’s selection — Wives, Widows and Daughters, by Diana Bigelow
Explore the lives of Czech women during the evolutional change from the traditional subordinate positions in a dominating patriarchal society to a 20th century where women began to claim their equal rights. The everyday lives of the common people of rural Bohemia comes to light for a group that rarely is featured in any history books.
About the Author:
Diana Bigelow is a genealogist with a fascination for the journey of emigrants. Her journey began with her own research into her family roots that led her on the path to understanding the Czech peasant class and the cultural forces that shaped their lives. Diana often used the scientific method on available data in the historical records she used in her research. She explained her research method in her blog and book, Quitting Bohemia: Discovering the 19th Century World That Created the Czech Diaspora.
