Dancer, educator, and choreographer Dagmar Spain will lead a workshop at NCSML on movement as a physical dialogue for expressing democracy. This workshop is appropriate for anyone interested in communication; no prior dance training or experience is necessary.
Spain considers and refers to movement as dialogue, quoting theologian Kai Alhanen as her inspiration for this approach: “The kind of learning that occurs in dialogue is a constantly developing understanding of the world’s phenomena, other people, and oneself.” (Alhanen, 2019) Through her teaching, she strives to deepen participants’ understanding of their contribution to democracy and empowered citizenship.

A native of the Czech Republic, Spain holds an MFA in dance and choreography from Tisch School of the Arts, NYU, and is currently pursuing doctoral studies in dance education at Columbia University (NY).
