** Cancelled **
Due to a family emergency, this event has been cancelled for April 8.
Ten years ago, the European Union (EU) was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for advancing the causes of peace, reconciliation, democracy, and human rights in Europe. In addition, the EU has had a significant positive economic impact on most member states, including the Czech Republic. According to a 2019 study of the member states who joined from 1973 to 2004, without European integration, per capita incomes would have been, on average, approximately 10 percent lower in the first ten years after joining the EU. European citizens benefit from other positive impacts and programs such as in education or employment.
Join Jan for an in-person and Zoom presentation covering the brief history of the EU followed by the EU key pillars and principles. Secondly, he’ll discuss some of the current challenges the EU faces. Since the Czech Republic will hold the presidency of the Council of the European later in 2022, the role and position of the Czech Republic will also be presented.
