Family Film: Three Nuts for Cinderella (Tři oříšky pro Popelku)
December 17, 2016 @ 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
$2 – $5An annual holiday tradition in many European countries, and at the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, Three Nuts for Cinderella is a familiar fairytale with some unique twists. Cookies and cider provided.
The film stars Libuše Šafránková as the title character, a young woman who is treated terribly by her stepmother and stepsister. But soon a handsome prince comes knocking. Cinderella does not simply fall into the prince’s arms, however. In this version, he must actively pursue the young woman – who is a skilled sharpshooter prone to wearing hunting outfits. Cinderella also has three wish-granting magic hazelnuts at her disposal and an owl for a “fairy godmother.” Will the prince win her over in the end?
This film is in Czech with English subtitles. 83 minutes, 1973. $5 for adults, $2 for youth 18 and under. Seating may be limited; purchase tickets in advance to ensure your seat. Tickets may also be available at the door.
Plus: see real costumes from the film while you’re here for the movie, on loan from Barrandov Studios, Prague!
