We’ll be discussing the spread of Impressionism across Europe and how it ended up influencing Czech and Slovak artists years after the French masters began painting their outdoor scenes. We’ll take a comparative look at Uprka’s work and see how he made this iconic movement his own through a fusion of other European influences.
In the first exhibition of the art work of Joža Uprka in the United States, National Treasure: The Art of Joža Uprka showcases a stunning array of oil paintings, posters, and mixed media on loan from the George Drost Collection. Joža Uprka (1861 – 1940) was a Czech painter and graphic artist whose work combined elements of Romanticism and Art Nouveau to document the folk life of Southern Moravia.
