History on Tap: Lasers and Beer! – mapping Iowa City’s historic beer caves, and other adventures in 3D scanning

Using a laser-based technology for 3D scanning known as “LiDAR” (Light Imaging Detection and Ranging), the University of Iowa’s Adam Skibbe (Department of Geographical and Sustainability Sciences) and Michelle Wienhold (Iowa Flood Center) have traveled around Iowa mapping many historic and cultural resources, but perhaps none is more interesting than the historic beer caves located underneath Iowa City’s Northside district.
