Josef Lada (1887-1957) is best known as the illustrator of Jaroslav Hašek’s novel The Good Soldier Švejk, and as an illustrator and author of children’s books. Lada’s works reflect growing up in a small Bohemian village and bring to life the world of poor artisans, their simple joys, and the passage of time marked by seasonal work and holidays. The works on display at NCSML are reproductions of some of his most significant illustrations.
