2024 Styk Challenge Letter by Robert J. Petrik

This year for #GivingTuesday, your donation to the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library will be matched through the generosity of legacy donor Robert Petrik. Bob has agreed to match every donation, dollar for dollar, up to $10,000! Please read Bob’s inspiring message below. We are thankful for Robert Petrik and all of you for supporting the NCSML this year!

The Styk Family Challenge begins now so make your donation today!

Dear friends and fellow members of the NCSML,

As 2024 draws to a close, we are all reminded of family and friends. This is what holidays are all about. This is why I am establishing a matching program in honor of my mother and the entire Styk family from throughout the United States (U.S.), Canada and abroad.

I will match all contributions until we reach up to $10,000. This is a great way to double your contribution to the NCSML.

My mother immigrated to the U. S. in 1912. She came from a small village in Slovakia, Liptovske Revuce. She came at the age of four years old. As the only child at the time, she settled in Pennsylvania with her parents. Her father worked in the coal mines, and their family grew. In the years that followed, she had four siblings. The family worked hard to make a new life in America. Things were not always easy with five children. My mother, being the eldest, often had to care for her siblings while the parents worked.

Fast forward, now we the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren are able to enjoy a good life in the United States of America, thanks to their hard work and the determination of our mothers and fathers who sought a new life. It is so important that we honor our ancestors and keep our rich cultural traditions alive. We have so much to teach future generations. That is why I am establishing this matching program in honor of my mother. I hope that you will do the same and let’s double our efforts!

Please make a year-end gift to the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library today.

Sincerely,

Robert J. Petrik
