African Art!

August 14, 2015 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Free

UIMA African ArtCome learn about art from Africa! University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA) instructors will lead an interactive presentation of original works of art from this part of the globe.  See, touch, and talk about beautiful pieces of art from Africa.

This program is free to the public, and is made possible by the University of Iowa Museum of Art Education Partners and the University of Iowa Museum of Art.

Objects like the ones in the UIMA education collection play crucial roles in the lives of African people. They were used to heal sickness, to honor leaders and heroes, to preserve histories, assert power, bring prosperity, and to ease the many difficulties all people face over the course of a lifetime. Their visual power contributes to their effectiveness, making art an essential element of life.
