Dukla 61

Czech That Film is a film festival of the best Czech films held throughout the United States every year. The NCSML is thrilled to welcome them back and show four different movies with two screenings the first four weekends in August in our very own Hemphill Theater. Guests can enjoy the films Friday evenings at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday afternoons at 1:00 p.m.

Aug 9 & 10: Dukla 61
The Czech television production examines one of the country’s greatest mining tragedies. Failure to comply with safety protocol, the pressure to produce results, and an avalanche of critical errors caused a fire in a Dukla mineshaft in Haviřov on July 7, 1961, killing 108 miners. Shot in a former mine in Rakovník, this family drama pays tribute to the mining profession. Length: 150 minutes. In Czech with English subtitles.

Cost: $5 per film or $15 if you attend one screening of all four

Czech that Film is organized by Lucerna Film, Czech Centres, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences.
