Free First Saturday for Students: Earth Month Party

Hubert the Hedgehog holding an Earth sign and flower

Cost: Free with student ID.

Students of all ages (preschool through college) are invited to visit the NCSML’s exhibits for free on the first Saturday of each month. Visitors also will be able to take part in different themed activities and celebrations. College students must bring a current school ID card.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. we will be celebrating Earth Month! We will have folks from Indian Creek Nature Center, Solid Waste Management, and volunteers from The University of Iowa Museum of Natural History with activities for visitors and students to participate in.

Activities include:

Indian Creek Nature Center will be getting messy with a compostable bird feeders station! We’ll learn how to make bird feeders out of materials that are better for the environment.

Solid Waste Agency will be bringing some worm buddies to teach visitors about vermicomposting and how we can turn food waste into usable compost. Students will also get a chance to touch our little composting friends!

University of Iowa Museum of Natural History will be sending a Discovery Trunk loaded up with fossils from 360 million years ago!

Green Iowa Americorp will show us how we can help the butterflies by making seed balls that are chock full of some of their favorite flowers!

Sponsored by: United Fire Group, with contributing sponsorship from Lu and Katherine Svoboda.
