Global Voices, Local Actions: Confronting Genocide and Cultural Differences

In collaboration with multiple organizations, including the Thaler Foundation and Coe College, the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library will host Gideon Frieder, a speaker from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Survivor Speakers’ Bureau to speak of his experience as a Holocaust survivor at Coe College’s Sinclair Auditorium. To supplement the speaker’s talk, and further discussion of the issues surrounding genocide and the Holocaust, a panel of scholars and professionals will provide their insights on how the community can actively confront genocide and cultural differences.

The panelists for this program are:
Dr. Stephen Gaies, Director of the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education at the University of Northern Iowa
Mr. Wahutu Siguru, Rwandan Genocide Scholar and PhD Candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Minnesota
Mr. Caleb Gates, Refugee Resettlement Case Manager for the Catholic Charities of Dubuque-Cedar Rapids Office

This event is part of the Global Voices, Local Actions series, which aims to promote and encourage humanitarian efforts within our local community.
