Meet the artist: Stezky / Pathways

Meet Artist Sonya Darrow, Creator of the Exhibit Stezky/Pathways

Artist Sonya Darrow will be available to talk with visitors about her exhibit Stezky/Pathways, which is on display through July 13 in the Skala Bartizal Library at the NCSML. Darrow created a folk identity—“(319)Czech”—to engage Czech communities as she developed this exhibit. Using objects, sounds and folklore, Darrow mapped the cultural landscape and facilitated discussions about cultural identity and sense of place in these historically Czech communities. Then, inspired by the townspeople’s stories, she created the exhibit using art objects that they provided.

Learn more about Darrow, her work and this exhibit by reading a story in the Cedar Rapids Gazette by reporter Liz Zabel.
