Point of Space: Jan Kaláb Talk and Book Signing

When Jan Kaláb was born in 1978 in Czechoslovakia, graffiti was not to be seen in the Eastern World. In the nineties, as the country was opening itself to western influences, he became one of the pioneers of the local scene expressing himself with his iconic crew, the DSK. As his media transformed and he became a prominent contemporary artist, one thing remains: his unique point of view. Jan will talk about his past as a leading graffiti and street artist (known primarily as Cakes and Point) to his work now as a genre defying artist. On his own or collectively, the motto is the same: always getting higher, always inventing new forms – a tribute to the soul of graffiti. His talk will be followed by a book a signing of his book, Point of Space, a monograph and the first comprehensive survey of his work. In its more than more than three hundred and fifty pages, the book presents the artist’s extensive oeuvre from 1993 to 2018: walls, trains, three-dimensional graffiti, pavement paintings, murals, and paintings on canvas, sculptures and countless installations. Point of Space is for sale in the Museum Store and online.

Jan Kaláb’s visit is part of NCSML’s Revolution Starts in the Streets public art installation and programming.

Cost: Free, RSVP required.
