Nigerian-Czech choreographer Yemi Akinyemi Dele has danced and created all over the world. Though Yemi was successful in Europe, he came to global fame through working with Kanye West for his video “Runaway” in 2010. The relationship between these artists continued as Yemi choreographed for Kanye West’s appearances on SNL and at the VMA’s the same year. Yemi A.D. is now internationally known and his events company, JAD Productions, creates immersive multi-media arts and movement events across the world.
This workshop will begin by discussing Kanye West’s music video and Yemi A.D.’s choreography. We will analyze the dancers’ movements in relation to the lyrics and video design. Then, students will learn the movements of the video with time to freestyle according to their own interpretations of Yemi’s choreography. Recommended age 16+.
