For the first time in BrewNost’s history, we’re hosting a live auction!

Nicholas “Nicho” Lowry, president of Swann Auction Galleries in New York City, will be the celebrity auctioneer for the live auction at BrewNost on September 15, 2017.

Known by many for his frequent appearances on PBS’s Antiques Roadshow series, Lowry is one of the world’s foremost authorities on vintage posters. Selected Czech travel posters from his family’s extensive collection appeared in exhibition at the NCSML from November 2015 to March 2016.

Bidders in the live auction will be vying for seven special premium packages, the details of which are below.

#1 Popoli & Symphony

Put your hands up (!) for this unique package.  Enjoy dinner for 8 in the old bank vault at Popoli Ristorante and Sullivan’s Bar, plus 8 tickets to Orchestra Iowa. Bring your friends to Popoli Ristorante, where they will savor artisanal, handmade food and a historic setting. Then, make your escape to a concert from Orchestra Iowa, Iowa’s premier orchestra. It will be a night to remember!

#2 The Prague Package 

Get away to this Old World city that is regarded as one of Europe’s most charming and beautiful. Package includes a 3-night stay at the Aria Hotel and Dinner for two at Kampa Park restaurant. The Aria is one of the best hotels in all of Prague! Just steps away from the Charles Bridge and Prague Castle, each of its 51 modern rooms is dedicated to a specific style of music or to a particular artist. #3 Beer Caves Tour & Tasting at John’s Grocery

You don’t have to be a spelunker to enjoy this cave tour. Join Marlin Ingalls for a guided tour for you and up to 20 of your friends through Iowa City’s historic beer caves. These caves are found under an extensive area of Iowa City, IA , and exemplify the voissoir arch technique developed by Roman architects. After the tour, head over to John’s Grocery for a tasting with local Beer Expert, Doug Alberhasky. Participants must be able to climb up and down a ladder and manage in tight spaces. #4 Mangia!

Join Sicilian sisters Melanie and Tiffany DiBernardo (aka Olson & O’Donnell) for an Italian dinner at the beautiful home of Michael and Tiffany O’Donnell. Guests will enjoy an authentic Sicilian menu including the vino! Dinner is for 8-10 people. Event date coordination with Tiffany O’Donnell for date in 2018.

#5 Best Case Wine Tasting

Consider yourself a bit of a wine aficionado? Or want to become one? Gather your discriminating friends, and see, swirl, sniff, sip and savor a carefully curated collection of fine wines paired with hors d’ oeuvres. Wine expert Robert Morey, owner of Best Case Wines in Iowa City, will be your guide. Event will be in your home, and may be scheduled with Robert on a mutually agreed upon date in 2018.

#6 Free Admission for Kids

Each year, almost 3,000 2nd and 3rd graders visit the NCSML as part of their classroom study. They learn about Maňa Machovsky, a real girl who immigrated with her family from Czechoslovakia to Cedar Rapids in 1922, which helps them satisfy curriculum requirements for immigration studies. Students’ families often cannot afford to pay the admission cost. $1,000 will pay for over 300 student trips to the NCSML. Help us eliminate barriers to learning. #7 Lion Bridge Tour & Tasting

If you like craft beer, you’ve heard of Lion Bridge Brewing Company in Czech Village…and that the beers they brew are award winning. But not everyone has been a VIP on the production room floor where the magic happens! If you have long wished to examine the inner workings of this crafty brewery—and share the experience with your friends—now’s your chance! Raise your glass (and your hand) for this tour and tasting at Lion Bridge Brewing Company for up to 12 lucky people. Quinton and Ana McClain will lead the tour where you will sample and learn about a variety of beers that are unique, and sometimes even a bit mysterious. Beers will be thoughtfully paired with eclectic appetizers that bring out their nuanced flavor. Coordinate with Ana McClain to set a date before 9/15/18.
