Immigrant Foodways: Buchty

For the last class of the series, we are going to prepare a traditional Czech dessert. Yeast and sweet buns filled with prune jam or strawberry marmalade is one of those meals that almost every Czech grandmother was known for making. In this class, all attendees will be focusing on all parts of this unique dessert, and when finished, your home will smell fabulous and you will have enough buchty to keep that smile on your face for the rest of your day.

Note: Suitable for vegetarians too.

Join us for our second virtual Immigrant Foodways Series: Classic & Modern Czech & Slovak Cuisine II. Enjoy a premier cooking class with Chef Tom Slepicka from the comfort of your home.

Tom Slepicka graduated from culinary school in his hometown, Brno, located in the Czech Republic. While still in school, he established a successful full-service catering company which operated in the Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, and Austria. During his years in the catering industry in Europe, he focused on providing a fine-dining experience utilizing world cuisine. He moved to the USA with his wife in 2014. In 2015 – 2016 he operated the Czech Deli at the NewBo City Market. The goal of his courses is to make tasty and high-quality meals more accessible to everyone.
