Immigrant Foodways: The Witch’s Garden

Bree Neyland

In this fun and informative hands-on workshop, we’ll explore the medieval gardens of famous women physickers, sometimes known as “witches.” You’ll be able to design your own “herbal” gardens using the laminated healing herbs chart provided and concoct the teas documented in recovered manuscripts. We’ll try our hand at creating our own recipes, taste some contemporary spins on medieval teas and elixers, and make a variety of your favorite tea combinations into satchels that you can take home.

About our presenter:
Bree Neyland has a PhD in Environmental Rhetoric and has taught environmental fiction and nature writing at Loras College where she was an Associate Professor of Literature. She was also the owner of Tanglepath Herbs, a small backyard organic herb farm. She spends as much time as she can in her country garden with her animals and plants. Bree and her husband own the Sass Family Farm near Riverside, IA.

Cost: $20 per participant. Seating is limited and RSVP is required.
